The Arizona plant, IPS Guatemala’s highest-capacity thermal plant, began operations in 2003 and was acquired by International Power Services in 2021. Located in Puerto de San José and connected to the San Joaquin Substation, Arizona provides the people of Guatemala with 170 MW of firm capacity, ensuring a reliable power supply every day.
The Arizona plant provides the people of Guatemala with fast responding thermal energy using reciprocating engines with a Miller Cycle and a combined cycle, making it the most efficient modular thermal plant of its technology. It is interconnected to the National Grid by a 33 km transmission line to the San Joaquin Substation with a 230KV voltage.
The Arizona plant is located on a 30-hectare plot near the Port of Puerto Quetzal, with a 4km pipeline used to unload the fuel from the ships directly to the tanks at the plant directly from the port. The plant is connected to the National Grid through the San Joaquin substation with a 230 kV voltage.

Convergence Center
Since 2021, IPS has had a significant role in the creation of the Convergence Center, an effort formed through the partnership of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, COCODE, and Orazul to help strengthen the services provided at the Social Clinic in Parcelamiento Arizona. IPS has aided in the Convergence Center’s work, including a full renovation of medical facilities, providing upgraded medical equipment, additional health services and resources for children and families, and access to immunizations for the inhabitants of the neighborhoods surrounding the Arizona Power Plant.
