DIABETIC PATIENT CARE

DIABETIC PATIENT CARE

Diabetic patients can suffer from circulation issues and nerve damage, due to the high levels of sugar in the blood. Regular diabetic foot checks and treatments by a podiatrist is very important as diabetic patients are at a higher risk of infection and foot ulcers. It is very important that diabetic patients receive specialist care; this is provided by the podiatrist performing a neuro-vascular assessment, correct nail cutting and routinely checking the feet.

VASCULAR ASSESSMENT

There are pulses in your feet, these are manually palpated by the podiatrist to ascertain the strength and quality of the circulation to the feet. Vascular Doppler testing is used if the pulses are hard to palpate. Temperature and colour are also monitored.

NEUROLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

This is to test for sensation deprivation Neurological monofilament Vibration assessments. Following the assessment, a general treatment is performed, and you are informed of the results and foot care advice is given. If a GP referral is needed a covering letter will be provided.
